LOVED this place. From the moment we checked in the staff did everything possible to make our stay amazing even organizing a lunch in the garden for us when their restaurant was fully booked. ||We enjoyed an exceptional wine tasting of …
We went to spend 36 hours in this beautiful place and will keep excellent memories of it.
Admittedly, the rooms are simple (some say outdated) but they are commensurate with a very old place that has a fantastic soul.
Having breakfast in the morning, under the sun, at the edge of the French garden is a moment full of calm and timeless serenity.
Finally, the restaurant (100m from the old abbey) is top notch and the summer evening spent eating well and tasting super local wines was an exceptional moment.
I would add that this is the only place where we were able to see and admire "fireflies" at night: there are few places left where they develop and being able to admire them added to the charm of the moment.
So if you like to stop in a place full of soul, go there ;-)
My wife and I visited this beautiful Abbey at the beginning of September. As our flight was delated, we arrived past 1130pm but the restaurant staff was so kind to leave a full dinner in our appartment. The granaio appartment was clean and well furnished, and the breakfast the day after our arrival very good. Friendly staff served us scambled eggs, prosciutto and cheese, excellent house made focaccia and pizza, a spinach and prosciutto puff pastry pie, fresh fruit and yogurt..and a milion other items. Coffee service at the same level of a bar..cappuccino, latte and all you can ask for, juices etc.
My wife broke a tooth and the reception found for us a dentist the very day. Stunning to say, dentist performed a clean up and temporary repair for free!!!!
We also joined the tour and tasting, which was hosted in a tasteful room.
Concierge again helped us booking a wine tasting at Volpaia our last day.
A part the restaurant needs to be mentioned. Riccardo Giorgi, manager at the restaurant, offered us the most friendly and professional service I have ever received in my entire career of hospitality and food and beverage manager. Service was attentive but not invasive, we asked for items off the luch menu such as a big juicy chianina steak, he made it happen.
Wine tasting was offered by the house.
I shall mention that we booked the granaio room not being aware than it can host up to 2 families. When we casually mentioned this to the receptionist, we were given 50% off.
I have been manager in the industry for over 35 years and I have never received such professional and attentive service.
Stop to visit the pretty shop at the beginning of the road that takes you to the abbey..you will find the same quality. We will be back
Came here for a wine tour, tasting, and dinner. This place is beautiful with stunning views of the valley, vineyards, and distant Tuscan hills. The tour was interesting and our guide was very knowledgeable, but it felt a little lackluster because we didn't see too much - one room and a cellar and some old machinery. We came here because we were interested in it being a medieval castle, but we didn't really get that when we toured. The wine was good, but the tasting itself was in a small, hot room where bees were flying all over the place and there were old glasses left over from a previous tasting right on the table. Our tour/tasting group of about 10 people had to stand because there was nowhere to sit.
Giving three stars because the service at the dinner was pretty bad. The food was good and again, atmosphere was stunning, but the staff had a hard time keeping up with the busy dinner rush. We tried to get our server's attention for almost an hour at one point because either he ignored our hand signals, or he was nowhere to be found. We went to other medieval castle winery tours and tastings that were far better than this one. A bit of a letdown. I would not recommend coming here for a tour or tasting.
Beautiful grounds and tasty wine! We went here for an abbey tour and tasting. Our guide was really friendly and helpful. The location Is really unique - it was originally a monastery. The wine itself was pretty good, not our favorite in the region but still very good. I think they could improve their booking process since it was a bit confusing to make the reservation. Overall, it was a really good experience and I’m glad we went!
Came for the winery tour and tasting. Claudia was amazing and made us feel so welcome. The property is beautiful, and the wine and charcuterie board were amazing. Highly recommend!
Absolutely stunning place in the middle of nowhere. The surroundings are something out of a fantasy book, vineyards and forests that go on for kilometers. The breakfast is extremely good and varied, the waitress are extremely kind and attentive, very professional. My only complain is that the rooms/apartments are quite hot and there's no AC so you'll have to sleep with light clothes to not be bothered. The WiFi isn't that good either but it's understandable taking into account you're pretty much disconnected of nearby towns/cities.
When shown to our room it felt spacious if a little dark ….but the whole place grew on us and we ended up enjoying it enormously. |We embraced the atmosphere…. | Joined a cooking class run by the great Benedita Vitale and had enormous …
